Woodside Secondary School - Second World War Roll of Service
Woodside Secondary School was originally located at the junction of Woodlands Road and Eldon Street in Glasgow. Part of the building is now home to the STUC and the other part to The Old Schoolhouse Restaurant.
Woodside Secondary School opened in September 1882 and closed on June 30th 1999. In 117 years more than 70,000 pupils passed through these halls of learning, many going on to further education and University.
The School Motto is FORTITUDINE VINCEMUS - "By endurance we conquer!"
After the Second World War a "Roll of Service" was published. This contained the names and short details of all the pupils who had served in the Second World War. Those who had been decorated for gallantry or who had fallen in service had some more detail, together with (in most cases) a photograph.
This page collates the information from the Roll of Service, together with additional information added from our own research as well as submissions from members of the public. This is an ongoing project so please check back regularly to view any updates.
The list of names can be downloaded below. Should you wish to see a list of sources used, together with acknowledgements please click here.
We welcome contributions to this list. If you can provide any information on any of the names listed here, please contact us. We will be happy to give due credit for any submissions received.
