Commemorations Project - Our "flagship" project
This project started as an internet discussion forum in December 2006 for anyone interested in Scottish war memorials.
It quickly became a place to post images and transcriptions and within its first year over 80% of all of Scotland's civic war memorials had been photographed and recorded on the forum.
In late 2007 it was renamed as the Scottish War Memorial Project since it had evolved into something much more than just a forum and it is now being run as a project under the umbrella of the Scottish Military Research Group.
That same year we launched the Scottish War Graves Project as a sister site to record military burials in Scotland. That project ran separately for some years , but is now being incorporated into what is now called our Commemorations Project. The war graves site is still in existence as an "archived" site until all the data is transferred.
The work on this project is ongoing, and we are always looking for people to contribute. This contribution can take many forms - it could be additional photographs of a memorial, some information about the unveiling, or even a photograph or personal story about one of the names on a memorial.
To date (6th August 2013) we have recorded over 5,000 Scottish war memorials:

- 1,480 Civic memorials – the memorials to our communities
- 1,131 Church memorials
- 840 memorials to individuals
- 344 Regimental and unit memorials
- 125 memorials to Scots and Scottish units which are outside Scotland
- 190 School memorials
- 161 Rolls of honour
- 686 'other' memorials
- 56 lost or unidentified memorials
