Lloyds Banking Group in the World Wars
During the First and Second World Wars, men and women who worked for the banks which now make up Lloyds Banking Group volunteered their service to their country. Many of them did not survive, and their names are commemorated on memorials throughout Britain.
Our chairman, David McNay, has worked for what is now Lloyds Banking Group since 2000 when he joined the Bank of Scotland. During that time he has undertaken research into the names listed on the Groups war memorials.
Some of this research was used by the Group on their First World War pages on their website, and Davids research was of help when they compiled their online Roll of Honour.
The research he has carried out goes further than that, providing fuller details of the lives of these men and women, and also goes further in locating names which were not commemorated by the banks at the time of the creation of their memorials.
In time we will add the fruits of this research to our website here. They will include the listings for the following banks (among others):
